HAVANA TIMES — Odrisamer Despaigne pitched visiting Industriales to a 6-2 win over Matanzas in the opener of their best of seven series for the Western Division title of the Cuban Baseball League on Wednesday.

Tonight Ciego de Avila and Granma open their series for the Eastern Division title while Industriales and Matanzas meet in their game two.

Boxscore

Despaigne had a shaky start allowing Matanzas to bring the score to 3-2 in the second after Industriales had managed a three-run first inning on a homer with two on from Rudy Reyes.

However, the righty settled down and ended up going eight innings allowing nine hits and just the two early runs.

Matanzas right-hander Jorge Alberto Martínez didn’t have his usual control and was in the box for only three innings allowing six hits and four of Industriales’ runs, three earned.

Yoandi Garlobo and Manuel Benevidez drove in the two Matanzas runs in the first and second innings.

Juan Carlos Torriente went three-for-four with a run scored for Industriales, while Rudy  Reyes went three-for-five and drove in four.

Rayko Olivares and Irait Chirino both had two hits, including a double, and each scored a run for Industriales. Sergui Perez had a double and also crossed the plate.
