Leinier Dominguez Wins Grand Prix Chess Stage

HAVANA TIMES – Leinier Dominguez was crowned Monday at the Grand Prix chess stage at Thessaloniki, Greecee where he defeated Bulgarian Veselin Topalov, JIT Online reported.

By achieving the triumph over the highest ranking player among the 12 Grandmasters enrolled in the contest, Dominguez won his sixth match along with four draws and one loss.

The Cuban added 30 units to his current accumulated ELO rating now at 2,757, ranking him 11th in the world, which will be formalized on July 1.

Dominguez was in places 10 (London) and 11 (Tashkent), after phases one and two of the circuit. Two more remain to be played.
