Fragments of My Short Trip to Lima

Luis Rondon Paz

HAVANA TIMES — Thanks to me taking part in the International Congress of the Latin American Studies Association (LASA 2017), I was able to learn a little bit about Peru and Lima city, as well as having the great opportunity to interact with researchers and institutions from across the globe.

LASA, is the largest professional association in the world that brings together individuals and organizations who are committed to studying Latin America. According to http://lasa.international.pitt.edu, over 12,000 participants took part, the event had 900 sessions, including plenary sessions and informal meetings. The next LASA congress will be held in Barcelona, Spain on May 23-26, 2018.

On the last day of my trip, I had the opportunity to get to know a little more about life in Lima, with all of its diversity.

I never thought that it would be such a diverse and developed city. When I visited one of its parks, I realized that their laws are very strict with those who abuse animals or the environment; this amazed me a lot because Peru is a country with a high level of social inequality. In spite of this, I believe that Peru is a country with a great wealth of multi-cultural and social beauty. Hopefully I will return one day.

Here’s a video about one of my brief nighttime strolls through the center of Lima.
