Americas Summit Boycott Undecided

HAVANA TIMES, March 12 — Following a meeting with representatives of the 8-nation ALBA bloc, Bolivian President Evo Morales said on Sunday that those nations have not yet decided whether they will be attending the Summit of the Americas in Cartegena, Colombia, reported Europa Press.

“We still don’t have a definite position on whether to attend,” said the president. He considers the US’s denial of a place for Cuba at the April 14-15 meeting to be “unacceptable” and has described that stance as “discriminatory and undemocratic.”

“We are in close consultation not only as the ALBA member countries, but also with other countries, other presidents and other governments in the Americas,” he said.

The debate around Cuba’s attendance continues with other voices having joined in. Felipe Gonzalez, the former Spanish Prime Minister, said on Saturday from Venezuela that he supports “Cuba being in these meetings.”
