HAVANA TIMES — The ashes of former Cuban prosecutor Fernando Flores Ibarra, who died on May 24 in Santiago de Chile, “will be sent to Cuba where they will rest alongside his fellow comrades,” reported the Granma newspaper today in a brief obituary.
According to the Miami-based Café Fuerte website, the official — who served for 30 years in Cuba’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and retired in 1994 — is known for giving the orders for the firing squad executions of more than one hundred Cubans who worked in the service of the Batista dictatorship in the 1950’s, which is why he is known by the pseudonym of “Charco de Sangre” (The Bloodbath).
Flores Ibarra died at the age 82 following a cardiac arrest at his home in the exclusive Barrio Alto neighborhood, where he lived his wife, a Chilean doctor.
