HAVANA TIMES — Cuba launched its first biodiesel plant in the province of Guantanamo, built with Swiss support, reported the director of the Center for Technology Applications for Sustainable Development in the province, speaking on national television Monday.
The plant began by producing a “green fuel” that comes from Jatropha curcas, an inedible shrub that is used on the island against parasitic diseases.
With a capacity to produce over 100 tons per year, the small factory will direct its first liters of fuel toward agricultural machinery in the area, said the official.
