HAVANA TIMES, Jan 30 — The president of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff, will arrive this afternoon in Havana, where she will hold talks with Cuban President Raul Castro, the Granma newspaper reported.
Brazil is currently bankrolling major economic projects on the island, among which is the expansion of the western port of Mariel, which is receiving an investment of $800 million funded almost entirely by that South American country.
In addition, an extensive program for producing 1.2 million acres (500,000 hectares) of transgenic soybeans is progressing in Ciego de Avila province with the involvement of 90 percent Brazilian technology.
During her first official visit to the island, the president will announce “other activities” that were not disclosed by the official press; she will then travel on to Port au Prince, Haiti.
