CAFE favors Senator Hagel as US Defense Secretary

HAVANA TIMES — The Cuban-American group CAFE (Cuban Americans for Engagement) on Sunday defended the nomination of former Nebraska senator Chuck Hagel for US Secretary of Defense.

A CAFE statement denounced the position of Senator Marco Rubio (R- Florida), who is threatening to derail the nomination of Hagel due to his opposition of the US embargo on Cuba.

CAFE rejects the “manner in which senators Rubio and Robert Menendez have tried to turn support for the embargo of Cuba into a test of strength against several ambassadors and now against potential cabinet members.”
