Call Issued for the Celebration of May Day

HAVANA TIMES, March 19 — Through a notice in the weekly Trabajadores newspaer, the Cuban Confederation of Workers (CTC) called on its members on the island to participate in the national May Day celebration.

“We intend to arrive at the date having fulfilled our economic plans and the budget, with emphasis on the sugar harvest, food production, industrial plans, construction and science,” states the article.

The date is celebrated on the island each year with mass rallies in major cities in each province, which are considered by leaders as reaffirmation of support for the Cuban government.
