HAVANA TIMES, April 20 — The Latin American Federation of Rural Women in Cuba introduced a lawsuit on Wednesday against the Popular Power National Assembly in the eastern province of Holguin for ignoring their petition concerning the country’s dual currency.
The Federation seeks to discuss parliament’s blueprint “for establishing a single currency for all commercial transactions within the island, including the payment of wages to workers,” said leader Lourdes Yen Rodriguez to the Diario de Cuba online publication.
“We have delivered more than 30,000 signatures and 41,000 were collected,” said Yen, who serves as the national president of the civic organization.
Activist lawyer Carlos Alberto Betancourt Diaz filed the complaint which was recorded with the Attorney General’s Office, though the government has not responded as of yet.
The Alhucema Solidarity Initiatives Association based in Seville, Spain also sends medical supplies to Cuba.
