HAVANA TIMES — The Cuba government has gone past its projected Tuesday completion date for the 2012 Census of the island, according to official reports. Work continues on the collection of data, with more than 300,000 people yet to be surveyed.
“The census survey period concluded the day before [Monday], but there’s always a group of houses and people who cannot be surveyed for various reasons,” said the national director of the census, Juan Carlos Alfonso Fraga, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.
Alfonso Fraga also indicated that from Saturday, September 29, until October 8, a “re-censusing” action will be carried out to assess whether there were omissions or duplications, as well as to check the quality of the responses. This will involve a random sample of about 100,000 people.
Preliminary findings for the entire process are planned for October 2012, while the final figures of the census, according to the plan, should be ready by June 2013, the official told Cuban television.
