Cuba Lands First Two Gold Medals

HAVANA TIMES — Cuba obtained its first two gold medals at the London Olympics on Friday.

It also has two silver medals and one bronze, to be currently in 14th place on the medal standings.

Idalis Ortiz won the championship of the women’s 78 kg judo event defeating Sugimoto of Japan. Leuris Popo won the 25 meter rapid fire pistol event.

In the Beijing 2008 Olympics Cuba obtained 2 gold medals, 11 silver and 11 bronze.
