Cuba Pays Tribute to Lezama

HAVANA TIMES, Nov. 2 — Cuba will pay tribute on November 4 to writer José Lezama Lima (1910-1976) with an International Colloquium dedicated to his work, considered one of the most important of Spanish-American literature of the 20th century, reported IPS.

Some 60 specialists from Spain, France, Italy, Mexico, Colombia and the United States, among other countries, are attending the event, held in the Cuban capital. Lezama, venerated by generations of intellectuals and marginalized by Cuban cultural institutions in the 1970s, was the author of indispensable works such as the novel Paradiso and dozens of essays that defined a stunning conception of culture and history.
