Cuba Suffers Surprise Loss in International Wrestling Tournament

HAVANA TIMES — Against all odds, Cuba fell to Poland on Wednesday in the 120 kg Greco-Roman division during the opening day of the 44th international Granma-Cerro Pelado wrestling tournament, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.

Poland’s Kamil Bronski was the first foreigner competitor to win in this division in the last two years, defeating his Cuban opponent, Yasmani Acosta, in the finals (1-0, 0-1 and 1-0). The other matches went to Cubans: Alan Vera (84 kg), Juan Tomas Corrales (55 kg) and Pedro Isaac Mulens (66 kg).

Today, matches in the classic style will conclude with the presentation of medals in the 60, 74 and 96 kilogram categories – in which Cubans are again the favorites.
