Cuba Takes 5th in Volleyball World Cup

HAVANA TIMES, Dec. 4 — Cuba defeated Egypt today, three sets to one, and finished with seven wins and four defeats in its performance in men’s World Cup Volleyball at Tokyo, which was won by Russia.

The Cuban offense was led by Fernando Hernandez with 25 points, who raised his total to 225. Hernandez could wind up as a leader in this indicator, depending on the playing of Italian Michal Lasko, who has racked up 197 points so far.

Team Cuba ranked fifth in the competition by accumulating 20 points, and won a ticket to the 2012 London Olympic Games.
