Cuban and US Photographers Present Joint Project at Havana Book Fair

HAVANA TIMES, Feb 10 — Photographs by US citizen Chip Cooper and Cuban national Nestor Marti were presented yesterday in the Cuban capital with the launching of the book La Habana Vieja. El espiritu de la ciudad viva (Old Havana: The Spirit of the Living City), reported the Prensa Latina news agency.

The volume of photos of the capital and its people is the result of an academic collaboration between the University of Alabama (USA) and Cuba.

Cooper commented that this work changed his life: “It’s as if all the books of photographs that I did in the past led to Cuba,” said the artist.

The book, which was presented within the framework of the Havana International Book Fair that began yesterday, contains prefaces by Eusebio Leal Spengler (the official Historian of Havana) and Bob Olin (the University of Alabama dean of Arts).
