Three Cuban Fencers to Participate in Pre-Olympic Americas Tournament

HAVANA TIMES, Feb 10 — Fencers Yamilka Rodriguez, Reinier Henriquez and Yaritza will compete in the Pre-Olympic Tournament of the Americas, slated for April 20 to 22 in Chile, reported Granma newspaper.

The Cuban fencers won three bronze medals in the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara and are currently in the special stage of preparation, seeking alternatives to address their lack of international-level contests.

The regional competition will only award two tickets to the London Olympics said Jaine Hernandez, the Caribbean athletes’ head coach, who hopes that at least one of his fencers will win an opportunity to compete in the 2012 summer Olympics.
