HAVANA TIMES — Cuban cyclist Lisandra Guerra has risen to fifth place in world rankings in the cycling sprint category, with 240 points, announced the International Cycling Union (UCI) on Monday.
According to a report by the Prensa Latina news agency, thanks to the fifth place standing that she achieved in the 2012 London Olympics — with the 180 units garnered in that summer competition — Guerra rose from 14th position to 5th to lead all Latin American and Caribbean cyclists.
The Cuban athlete is now surpassed only by Australia’s Anna Meares (with 640 points), Germany’s Kristina Vogel (330 points), Britain’s Victoria Pendleton (320) and China’s Guo Shuan (240). Fellow Cuban cyclist Marlies Mejias remains in tenth place with 140 points.
