Cuban Professor Killed in Mexico

HAVANA TIMES — Cuban professor Felix Ernesto Chavez Lopez died on Monday in Mexico City after being attacked by assailants in the apartment where he was staying, reported the Mexican newspaper El Universal.

The newspaper indicated that the Cuban citizen and three of his relatives were attacked by a group of robbers who took money and tried to carry off two television sets, though they were finally unable to accomplish that.

The sole person arrested told the police that the intention was to overcome the couple living in the apartment, but that the robbers didn’t expect to find so many people there. Chavez Lopez was stabbed several times as he attempted to thwart the robbery.

The 35-year-old professor was a researcher in literature at the Autonomous University of Madrid who had arrived in Mexico only two weeks earlier to give a lecture at the Autonomous University of Mexico.
