Cuban Women Volleyballers Aim for London

HAVANA TIMES, April 27 — The Cuban women’s squad will play in the NORCECA pre-Olympic volleyball matches in Mexico from April 27 to May 6, said the Cuban team’s former captain, Mireya Luis Hernandez, on Thursday when speaking to the Prensa Latina news agency.

The three-time Olympic champion said the Cuban team will be facing a number of quality opponents, such as Canada (which placed second in the previous tournament), Puerto Rico (which placed third) and the Dominican Republic (fourth).

However, the veteran player added: “The conditions are there for (the Cubans) to reach their goal, for them to show more maturity on the court. They even have a chance at getting a medal in London.”
