Cuba’s Humidor Auction Brings 1.1 Million

HAVANA TIMES, Feb. 26 — The XIII Habano Cigar Festival, the annual event that brings to Cuba cigar enthusiasts from around the globe, came to a close late Friday with an auction of custom made humidors and top grade cigars that brought in US $1.1 million.

During the weeklong event attracted a thousand participants from 70 countries including many buyers who market Cuba’s famous cigars.

Seven humidors packed with H. Upmann, Hoyo de Monterrey, Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta, Vegas Robaina, Partagás and Cohiba cigars went to the highest bidder.

The top earner was the Cohiba humidor with José María Palacios of Spain forking out a whopping $618,000.

The bidding actually took place in Euros and the organizers noted that as in the past the full proceeds go to help finance the Cuban Public Health system.
