HAVANA TIMES, Oct. 6 — A sub-tropical depression formed last night to the north of the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. Forecasters at Cuba’s Meteorological Institute (INSMET) predict the weather phenomenon will take a turn to the north in the coming hours, distancing itself from the Caribbean.
The depression packs maximum sustained winds of 55 kph (35 mph), reports INSMET
Also tracking the storm is the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami which, like INSMET, sees the depression taking a turn to the northeast by late Wednesday or Thursday and possibly strengthening to the Tropical Storm category.
Hurricane season for the Atlantic region, including the Caribbean, runs from June 1 to November 30.
