Dayron Robles Out of World Championships

HAVANA TIMES, March 6 — Due to a last minute injury, Cuban hurdler Dayron Robles will not participate in the Fourteenth World Athletics Indoor Championships, to be held this weekend in the Turkish city of Istanbul.

According to a statement from Spain by Cuba’s track and field commissioner, Robles struck a hurdle while undergoing training in that European country.

Robles will arrive in Cuba today after participating in several indoor competitions in Europe this year, though without him beating the time of the Chinese athlete Liu Xiang, who ran the 60-meter hurdle event in Birmingham in 7.41 seconds.

The hurdler was planning to attend the Turkey event, considered the prelude to the Olympic Games in London, as the leading figure in Cuba’s 11-member track team.
