Film ‘Juan of the Dead’ Wins Jury Award at Biarritz

HAVANA TIMES — The film Juan of the Dead, directed by Cuban cinematographer Alejandro Brugues, won with the Jury Prize this weekend in the category of “Films from Latin American” at the  film festival in the French city of Biarritz.

The film is a comedy based on the theme of zombies, which allows several readings of its political content, and has received several awards since its debut last year. Recently it was selected to represent Cuba at the Goya Awards in Spain.

In the French event, which concluded on Sunday, also receiving special mention was the Cuban documentary Uno al otra, by filmmaker Milena Almira, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.
