HAVANA TIMES, Jan 18 — At least 4,900 Cubans applied for home improvement grants or loans from the government on Monday, the first day that this program began operation, reported the Juventud Rebelde newspaper on Tuesday.
Of those applications, 1,339 have already been approved for assistance in repairing or building new homes for low-income people.
The newspaper reported that the flood of applicants exceeded the capacity of some offices on the first day of the new program.
The government will give priority to families affected by disasters such as cyclones and floods, in addition to “critical social service cases.”
