HAVANA TIMES – On July 18, the civilian medical students at the Alejandro Davila Bolaños Military Hospital School in the capital issued a statement in which they express their student disobedience in support of university students who have been threatened and tortured by paramilitaries of the Government of Daniel Ortega.
“We support student disobedience as a sign of empathy with the university students and in rejection of the violent acts committed in recent months,” the statement said.
According to the document, 73% of the students are concerned about the decision of the academic authorities, to resume classes on Thursday July 26.
“We are very concerned about the decision of the university authorities to resume academic activities on July 26, in the midst of the socio-political crisis that invades all Nicaraguans and that has ended every guarantee of citizen safety,” reads in the statement.
In addition, they ask the deans to reflect on the decision “hoping that they value the physical integrity and the life of their students above anything else”.
The students of the Military Hospital join the mourning of the student community and the Nicaraguan people for the death of the more than 350 people at the hands of Ortega’s oppression. They also repudiate all acts of destruction of the university campuses and show solidarity with the universities UNI, UPOLI, UNAN, UCA and UNA.
