Hollywood to Cooperate with Cuba

HAVANA TIMES, Dec 8 — Specialists with the Academy Film Archive in Hollywood will work with the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC) in the restoration of several classic films from the island.

The Academy will provide ICAIC with restored works and will keep copies for cultural exhibition purposes, according to statements made to Prensa Latina. It will also be possible to repair some of the films in Cuba with the aid of chemicals supplied by the US organization.

For this undertaking, specialist Josef Lindner and Frank Pierson (the former director of the Film Archive) came to the Havana Film Festival (Dec. 1-11).

Among the films that are expected to be restored are several by the late filmmaker Tomas “Titon” Gutierrez Alea.
