Industriales-Sancti Spiritus 1-1 in Cuba Playoffs

HAVANA TIMES, Feb. 29 — Sancti Spiritus avoided being swept as the home team defeating Industriales 8-1 on Sunday with a good outing from Ismel Jimenez and a bases loaded triple by Yunier Mendoza.  The team from the capital had opened their first round series of the Cuban baseball playoffs with a 3-1 win on Saturday.

In other playoff action, La Habana won game two over Cienfuegos 2-1 to even the other western division series.  Cienfuegos had taken the opener 5-4.

In the East, Ciego de Avila got off to a good start on Sunday winning a tight pitching duel 2-1 over Guantanamo.  Meanwhile, Villa Clara blasted Santiago de Cuba 11-1.

On Monday, Ciego de Avila plays Guantanamo and Santiago de Cuba vs. Guantanamo.  The western division teams have a rest day.
