Maradona Visits Hugo Chavez in Cuba

HAVANA TIMES, July 23 — Hugo Chavez was visited in Havana Friday by former Argentine soccer astro Dieo Maradona.  Chavez is undergoing a series of chemotherapy treatments to fight the spread of cancer.

Maradona, a good friend of the Venezuelan leader, also had a medical stint in Cuba several years ago when he was recovering from a drug addiction.

Chavez had a baseball size tumor removed on June 20th by Cuban doctors.  he returned to Venezuela on July 4th and then travelled to Cuba last Saturday for further treatment.

Chavez, who was optimistic about his treatment, also received a visit this week from Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa.  Present during both  visits was former Cuban President Fidel Castro.
