Mexico Firm Invests in Flexible Packaging for Cuba

HAVANA TIMES — The Mexican firm Industrial Expomayab is investing in a company engaged in the production of flexible packaging for dairy, food and cosmetics in Cuba, revealed Saturday at the International Havana Trade Fair, currently underway.

Under the name of Flexocaribe, the joint venture could begin operation in the first quarter of 2015 and will be located in the municipality of San José de Las Lajas, in the west of the island.

Cuba currently has a small company that makes packaging for salt, detergents, spaghetti and soaps, among other items, but the machinery of the factory is outdated.

The project aims to meet 80 percent of domestic demand for such products and promote exports, it will involve the renovation and expansion of existing technology.
