Netherlands Wins Haarlem Baseball Week

HAVANA TIMES, July 17, — The Netherlands clinched first place Saturday in the Haarlem Baseball Week tournament that concludes on Sunday.  After out pitching its opponents in its first six outings, the host Dutch staff was finally deciphered as they barely defeated Japan 10-9, with two runs in the bottom of the tenth inning to remain undefeated with seven wins.

Even if Cuba (5-2) —which has a guaranteed second place— should beat The Netherlands in the final game on Sunday, nothing would change in the standings.

The other three teams are Japan and USA both with 2-5 records and Chinese Taipei which is 2-6.  The USA and Japan play on Sunday in a game that will decide the third place finisher.
