HAVANA TIMES, Jan 20 — The Argentinian human rights activist and 1980 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Adolfo Perez Esquivel will attend the Eighth University Congress, to be held next month at the Havana Convention Center, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.
This will be the first time since 1998 that a Nobel Prize winner has attended this biennial forum in the Cuban capital. Also expected to participate is the religious and social activist Brazilian Frei Betto, as well as the deputy director general of UNESCO, China’s Qian Tang.
The scientific program anticipates about 2,000 submissions from 60 countries and will be attended by some 3,200 delegates, including 800 from Cuban universities. At the forum, discussions will take place on the role of higher education in sustainable development.
