HAVANA TIMES — Cuba has a population of 11,163,934 people, according to preliminary data from the Census of the Population and Housing, presented at the last 2012 session of the Council of Ministers this past Friday.
According to information released today by the Granma newspaper, the number of women exceeds that of men, with 50.09 and 49.91 percent respectively, while Cuba’s population aging was confirmed, with 18.3 percent of the population being over 60 years of age.
During the meeting, Vice President Marino Murillo explained that census work is still in its early stages of review, coding and digital validation, therefore the final data will not be released in June 2013.
The study, which took place in September of this year, was the eighteenth census conducted on the island and the fourth since the 1959 revolution.
In 2010 the Cuban population was estimated by the government statistics office (ONE) at 11,241,161.
