HAVANA TIMES — The director general of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Irina Bokova, has begun her first official visit to Cuba, where she will meet with government officials until Thursday, reported EFE.
Bokova was received on Tuesday at the Superior Institute of Art by the Minister of Culture, Rafael Bernal. Her agenda also includes a meeting with Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez and tours of the nation’s scientific complex, the International School of Film and Television and the historic center of Old Havana.
Speaking to reporters, the director stressed that “Cuba is a very important country for UNESCO” and pointed out that its “extraordinary wealth in intangible heritage” when commenting on the recent inclusion of tobacco-factory readers in Cuba’s cultural heritage.
