University Created in New Cuban Province

HAVANA TIMES — The University of Artemisa, with an enrollment of over 3,400 students, has been created in the newly delineated province to the west and south of the Cuban capital, reported the Granma newspaper on Wednesday.

The new center of higher education was born out of a fusion of universities of pedagogical sciences, municipal colleges and local affiliates of the faculty of physical culture in Artemisa Province.

The paper also reports the “resurgence” — in the neighboring province of Mayabeque — of the Agrarian University of Havana, now with more than 4,000 students. This institution includes majors in teaching and physical culture, in addition to existing studies in agricultural, the humanities, economics, and business and technical training.

The experience of these projects will be evaluated over a two-year period to then decide whether to extend this fusion approach to the rest of the country, according to the news note.
