US College Baseball Team Plays in Cuba

HAVANA TIMES, Jan 4 — The Lakers, a US college baseball team from Grand Valley, Michigan, traveled to Cuba to play in a series of three friendly matches this weekend and to donate medical supplies.

Their humanitarian cargo includes medical equipment, medicine and sports equipment that will be provided to youth organizations on the island, reported the Café Fuerte website.

The Lakers will play in three exhibition games with a college-level team made up of young Cuban players.

The Ciudad Deportiva Stadium, in the Cuban capital, will host the games on Thursday and Saturday, while the Latin American Stadium will host the competition with the foreign team on Friday.

The Lakers are the second college baseball team to travel to Cuba from the United States for friendly games since US President Barack Obama authorized academic, cultural and sports contacts with the island.
