US Drops Travel Alert for Nicaragua

Good news for the tourist industry

HAVANA TIMES – With the highly questioned November presidential elections now a thing of the past, as of December 1, the US government has dropped its travel alert on Nicaragua, Jose Adan Aguerri, president of the Supreme Council of Private Enterprise (Cosep), told El Nuevo Diario.

The business leader, who maintains good relations with the Ortega government, said the travel alert, in place for several months after Nicaragua deported or refused entry to several visiting foreign nationals including US citizens, is no longer in effect.

He noted the decision came at an opportune time due to the beginning of the high tourist season in the country. “How good that is raising this alert so that US citizens can come,” he added.

Aguerri said the alert had its origin in some political issues. “We hope this will inject the arrival of tourists to the country.”
