HAVANA TIMES — Two major projects that will positively impact the water supply system on the island were reported to the Cuban parliament on Thursday by Agnes Maria Chapman, the head of the National Institute of Water Resources.
According to the Prensa Latina news agency, the actions include the construction of four transfer stations that will pump massive amounts of water from various reservoirs in higher rainfall areas to areas in the east of the island that suffer from a relative scarcity of this resource.
In addition, progress was reported in the rehabilitation of water networks in the cities of Havana, Trinidad, Camaguey, Las Tunas, Holguin, Bayamo, Manzanillo, Santiago de Cuba, Guantanamo, Baracoa and Nueva Gerona.
The less than adequate availability of water on the island was the impetus to a comprehensive governmental program designed to encourage conservation and the efficient use of water.
