HAVANA TIMES — WikiLeaks has circulated around a hundred documents from the US Department of Defense that discuss the procedures to follow with those people being held at the prison at the US naval base in Guantanamo, reported EFE.
The documents describe the Customary Operating Procedures at the Iraqi detention camps in Bucca, Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo, as well as manuals for the interrogation and “Fragmentary Orders” about changes in detention policy.
WikiLeaks director Julian Assange described how the documents “reveal the anatomy of the monster of detention created after September 11, the creation of a dark space in which the law and rights don’t exist, where people can be arrested, without leaving a trace, at the wish of the Department of Defense.”
“Guantanamo has become the symbol of the systematic abuse of human rights,” added Assange, who is experiencing a complicated situation of asylum. He continues to live in the Ecuadorian embassy in London to avoid being extradited to Sweden, where he has been summoned in relation to an alleged sexual crime that took place there.
