Yarisley Silva to Compete in Diamond League in Stockholm

HAVANA TIMES — Cuban pole-vaulter Yarisley Silva will participate in the Diamond League in Stockholm, Sweden, on Friday, which will be her first competition since walking away with the silver medal in the recently concluded Olympic Games.

According to the Prensa Latina news agency, the Olympic medalist will attempt to break her personal record of 4.75 meters, which won her second place in the tournament in the British capital, beat out only by the US athlete Jennifer Suhr, who will also be attending the event in Stockholm.

Competing along with Silva in the European event will be Cuban discus thrower Yarelis Barrios, who was a silver medalist in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and is a multiple medalist in world competitions – though she didn’t make it onto the podium in London.
