Yasnier Toledo Ensures a Boxing Bronze for Cuba

HAVANA TIMES — On Monday, Cuban boxer Toledo Yasnier secured at least a second Olympic bronze medal for the island when he defeated the Kazakhstani slugger Gani Zhailauov in the 60 kilogram category, reports the Prensa Latina news agency.

“We had faced each three times earlier, so I already had an idea of his boxing style,” said Yasnier, who exercised total and absolute control over his opponent to win with a score of 19-11.

The young boxer said he felt close to being in optimal condition, but added, “I hope to be in even better shape as the tournament progresses.” This will be important because his upcoming bout on August 10 will be a semi-final contest against the Ukraine’s Vasyl Lomachenko, a highly skilled fighter.
