Yoani Sanchez and Oswaldo Paya Proposed for Nobel Prize

HAVANA TIMES, Jan 26 — The Spanish political party Union Progreso y Democracia (UPyD) on Tuesday sent letters to the Norwegian Nobel Committee for Peace requesting Cuban dissidents Oswaldo Paya and Yoani Sanchez be included as official candidates for the award.

According to the text cited by EFE, the tiny political party believes this would provide “extraordinary” recognition of all those who “have no voice,” especially in countries led by authoritarian governments.

In their blogs yesterday, both of the Cubans expressed their thanks for the recommendation from the Spanish party.
