Young Filmmakers Show their Works in Cuba from April 2-7

HAVANA TIMES – Cinema as a pretext to revalue reality, change it, think it, rewrite it. This is what the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC) Young Filmmakers Showing proposes each year, which seeks to promote the most recent work of those who are starting out in this adventure that is the seventh art.

This 18th edition of the event arrives from April 2 to 7 with a selection of 24 works in competition: 11 fiction and 13 documentaries. In the Bonus section 16 materials will be presented, which are not in the competition but the jury decided that they deserved to be seen by the public.

As always, the venues will be the Charles Chaplin and 23 and 12 cinemas, The Charlot Hall, Terence Piard Room, and the Strawberry and Chocolate Cultural Center.

As part of the event there will be a workshop on audiovisual realization with cell phones and other conferences. This year the figures of the writer Guillermo Cabrera Infante and the documentalist Santiago Álvarez will be highlighted.

The Board of Directors of the Young Cinema Showing also brings an announcement: “Animation disappears as a separate category, and instead a prize is established for this specialty. Thus, an old debt is settled with the animators, who for a long time have tried to point out that their art is not circumscribed to a specific discourse or genre, but can move between fiction and documentary, as a creative force of possibilities and inimaginable resources unimaginable.”

Among the special presentations will be the documentaries Inside Downtown by Nicolas Guillen Landrian and Jorge Egusquiza Zorrilla, Pablo Milanes by Juan Pin Vilar and Accelerated Underevelopment: In the Idiom of Santiago Alvarez by Travis Wilkerson.

This Tuesday, April 2, at 2pm at the Chaplin Cinema, the film event opening takes place with the movie Museo (Museum), by the Mexican Alonso Ruizpalacios. It is based on a famous robbery to the Museum of Anthropology of Mexico City on Christmas Eve, 1985.
