Cuba Gets Silver Medal in Discus

HAVANA TIMES, August 22 – Cuba’s discus hurler Yarelis Barrios reached deep into her reservoir of strength this weekend to win a silver medal at the World Athletics Championships taking place in Berlin.

On her sixth and last attempt Barrios sent the discus 65.31 meters to give Cuba (1-3-1) its fifth medal in the highly competitive events.  Australian Dani Samuels took the gold medal with a 65.44 mark.

Barrios was also a silver medalist at the Osaka 2007 World Championships and the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
