Cuba Leaves Pan American Triathlon Cup Without Medals

HAVANA TIMES — Cuban athlete Leslie Amat managed only fifth place in the third phase of the Pan American Cup and the Ibero-American Championships Triathlon held in Lima, Peru, reported the JIT Online website on Monday.

Amat, who represented the island at the 1st Youth Olympics in Singapore in 2010, covered the running course in 2:37.44 hours, the 1500 meter swimming component in 24.11 minutes, the 40 km. cycling course in 1:26.17 hours, and the 10 km. walking race in 47.16 minutes.

For his part, Cuban athlete Michel Gonzalez, a multi-medalist in the Central American Games, failed to finish the event, which was won by Mexican athlete Diaz Paola (2:22.03) and Spanish competitor Vicente Hernandez (1:59.31).
