HAVANA TIMES, April 13 — The Cuban male and female archery teams will be competing in the Olympic qualifier in Colombia, to be held April 20 to 24, reported the Cuban Information Agency.
The national commissioner of that sport on the island said that Cuba’s Juan Carlos Stevens, the fifth place winner in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, will be the main candidate in the event, where three Olympic slots will be allocated to each gender.
The Cuban squad is also made up Maydenia Sarduy, Larissa Pagan and Hugo Franco, who were all bronze medalists at the Pan American Games in 2011.
According to the commissioner, the Cuban men’s team is more likely to come out ahead because they will not be facing the United States, Canada, or Mexico, which all qualified in last year’s World Cup in Italy.
