Cuban Badminton Player Second in Peruvian Tournament

HAVANA TIMES, April 16 — Cuban badminton player Osleni Guerrero won the silver medal at the XVII International Badminton Tournament in Lima Peru on Sunday, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.

The Cuban runner-up in the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara was defeated in his gold medal match by scores of 15-21 and 11-21 against Malaysian athlete Tan Chung Seang, who is positioned in the top 50 players in the world.

With this result, Guerrero — who is situated at 166th in the world ranking — added 3,850 points to his personal rank, but still fails to qualify for the 2012 London games, whose qualification period will close this month with the contests at the International Tournament in Portugal from April 26 to 29.
