Cuban Chess Player Wins Tournament in Spain

HAVANA TIMES, April 11 — Cuban chess master Yusnel Bacallao won the 39th La Roda International Tournament in Albacete, Spain, reported the sports daily Marca.

Bacallao took the title by obtaining 7.5 points during the nine days of the Spanish tournament, edging out Ukrainia’s Sergey Fedorchuk and the Peruvian player Julio Granda.

Through his tour of Spain, Bacallao — at only 23 — has met the third and final requirement for obtaining the title of “grand master,” which the International Federation will grant him at its next congress.
