HAVANA TIMES, March 5 – Cuban center-fielder Yoenis Cespedes is officially a player for the Oakland Athletics, for which he will wear the number 52, the team reported on Saturday night.
After undergoing the required medical examinations, Cespedes, 26, signed a four-year contract for $36 million with the A’s, according to the EFE press agency.
The team leader, Bob Melvin, said Cespedes will begin undergoing training immediately but would not participate in any official games until he’s completely prepared to debut in the majors.
