152 Cubans Arrive Illegally in Costa Rica

HAVANA TIMES, March 23 — Costa Rican authorities reported on Thursday the illegal entry of 152 Cubans at several points along the border, reported Cubaencuentro.

Immigration authorities told the La Nacion newspaper that the illegal migrants had left Cuba via Ecuador hoping to reach the United States as their final destination. The US offers all Cubans a fast track to permanent residency if they can reach US soil.

All of the detainees are in good health, with the latest group having included a one-year-old baby girl, according to a report from Reuters.

At the moment, investigations are underway to determine if this involves only one group of foreigners. Two Costa Rican nationals were arrested this past weekend when they were discovered transporting a group of Cubans in a vehicle.
